According to the American institute of stress,
“Stress is difficult for scientists to define because it is a subjective sensation associated with varied symptoms that differ for each of us”.
As yet there is no definition of stress on which everybody can agree because one thing stressful for someone may be pleasurable for other. For example someone may be happy after retiring from job but someone may not be. It is estimated that almost 90% of the physical and mental diseases are derived from stress. The word stress was first time used by Hans Selye in 1936, he defines stress as,
“The non-specific response of the body to any demand for change”.
It depends upon the instinct of the body to define which thing can cause stress. It may also produce certain physical symptoms.
Sign and symptoms:
Expected sign and symptoms of stress are,
- Back pain
- High blood pressure
- Trouble sleeping or insomnia
- Problems with relationships
- Shortness of breath
- Constipation or diarrhea
- Stiff neck or jaw
- Upset stomach
- Weight gain or loss
Ways to treat stress:
There are different ways by which stress can be managed these include:
Conversation with your loved one:
Discuss your problems, thinking and emotions with your family member, friend, or loved one because sharing of problems with others reduces the chances of stress. If you are alone in your house, move out and see what’s happening in this world, meet your friends and make a fun.
Join a gym and do exercise. Visit at least 3 to 4 times per week. If it is not possible go for morning walk for at least half an hour. It is suggested that exercise produces healthy, calming effect and relive tension.
Take your meal regularly and don’t skip it as it may lead towards indigestion. Abnormal digestion or slow digestion could cause certain unpleasant conditions as constipation. Eat white meat as it is more useful than red meat. Limit your coffee and drink more water.
Breaks during working:
Take a short break during working as continuous working pose negative impact on your body. In Islam it has managed by Allah in the form of prayers as Muslims offer prayer five times a day. So they get time from their busy life, this produces a sign of refreshment as well.
Wear those clothes and shoes in which you feel free and comfortable.
Improper sleep could also cause stress as well certain other disorders as hypertension (Blood pressure) and heart problems.
Yoga is also suggested to overcome stress as by this way person train himself how to relax.
